In her photographic work, Viktoria Binschtok deals with circulating images of our globalized world. The 240-page publication includes the work groups 'Cluster' and 'Networked Images' (2014-2022), in which the artist, in cooperation with an image search algorithm, creates visual references between her own photographs and those freely circulating on the internet. She recreates the selected image data from the most diverse contexts down to the last detail and then combines both image worlds into large-format photo objects. In new contexts of meaning, the works allow a surprising look at our current visual culture, which is based on the permanent interaction between online and offline spaces. 'Connection' stands for global, non-verbal networking via images, as well as for contextual connections within the artistic work. The book begins with an early series that Binschtok photographed on the streets of Tokyo in 2004. Each of the B/W images shows a constellation of three random passers-by who are busy with their smartphones at the same moment. 'Three People on the Phone' visualizes the beginnings of mobile networking through smartphones and the resulting visible changes in our social communication in public space.
