After extensive renovation, the memorial site of Camp des Milles opens the buildings of the only internment, transit and deportation camp, still in good condition in France, to the public in 2012: more than 10,000 people of forty nationalities were interned there, between 1939 and 1942, including many intellectuals (Lion Feuchtwanger Franz Hessel ...) and artists (Hans Bellmer, Max Ernst, Robert Liebknecht ...). Written by members of the scientific committee of the Camp des Milles Foundation, the texts are illustrated with exceptional archival documents, including original drawings made by artists. Photographer Yves Jeanmougin completes this historical approach with photographs of the building before its restoration, adding strength to the memories.
