This publication describes the size and characteristics of emigrant populations by origin countries with a special focus on gender, educational attainment and labour force status. It offers origin countries a detailedpicture on the size and composition of their diaspora, as well as its evolution since 2000. There are six regional chapters, covering: North Africa and the Middle-East; Sub-Saharan Africa; Asia and Oceania; South and Central America and the Caribbean; OECD countries; and European non-OECD countries. Each chapter is introduced by an overview on historical migration patterns, description of the country notes and policy challenges for the region under review, followed by country notes.
