Si certaines sont impressionnantes et effrayantes, d'autres sont drôles et rassurantes !
The Natural History Museum, London holds types of species of Ixodida dating back to 1815. The primary and secondary types of 319 argasid and ixodid species group names are catalogued, including 68 junior subjective synonyms, from approximately 80 countries and protectorates. The catalogue focuses on itemizing the types found in The Natural History Museum's collections and purposely refrains from selecting lectotypes from syntypic series. However, in one case, because of its medical importance in the transmission of Borrelia duttoni, the agent of African tickborne relapsing fever to humans, a neotype for Ornithodoros moubata (Murray, 1877) has been selected. The original types are lost and the subsequently listed specimens, incorrectly cited as a holotype, allotype and paratypes of a neotype of O. moubata, have no nomenclatural validity as originally recorded.
